Our story

Ekta Mahila Sangathan, promoted by Utthan , is a women's collective aimed at developing local leadership and social capital for marginalized women in tribal districts of Panchmahal, Mahisagar, and Dahod in Gujarat, India. Established in 2004 to promote gender justice and economic empowerment, we mobilize women around their rights, provide support for survivors of gender-based violence, offer guidance on land rights, and promote gender sensitivity. We empower women with livelihood skills and encourage civic engagement, enabling them to lead village development. Through collaboration with local governments, we improve access to services and promote participatory governance. Currently, we are active in 80 villages across Gujarat with over 6,000 members.

Vision

A world where every woman thrives – empowered to lead with confidence, compassion, and purpose. We stand together to dismantle gender discrimination and ensure equal rights and opportunities for all. We believe in the unleashing of women's full potential to shape a brighter future.

Mission

To empower women and young girls by enhancing their agency, providing them with the perspectives, resources, and tools necessary to amplify their voices, gain access and control over productive resources, entitlements, and services, and take charge of their bodily autonomy.

Philosophy of change

Ekta Mahila Sangathan believes that women's empowerment is the cornerstone of a strong society. We work to uplift marginalized women by building social connections (social capital) and encouraging them to take charge of their lives (fostering agency). We champion gender equality, raise awareness on important issues, and promote self-reliance within communities. We are committed to sustainable development, because empowered women create a brighter future for all.
