Stepping into Security: Ajitkha’s Journey to Access the Old Age Assistance Scheme

In the small village of Vakhut in Santrampur taluka of Mahisagar district lives 62-year-old Ajitkha Ayubkha Pathan, a hardworking daily-wage laborer. Along with his wife, Sameenaben, aged 61, and their two sons, he supports a family of seven members. Their livelihood depends mainly on betel nut cutting work, a modest occupation that barely meets the family’s needs. With limited education and no other income, life has been a constant struggle to make ends meet.

For years, Ajitkha bhai had heard about the government’s Old Age Assistance Scheme but could never apply due to missing documents. His chance finally came when he attended a service camp organized by Ekta Mahila Sangathan with the support of Utthan. The camp gave him detailed guidance on how to access the scheme and what documents were needed, including an Aadhaar card, income certificate, birth proof, photos, ration card copy, and bank passbook. To gather these, he had to visit hospitals, the taluka office, and other local authorities several times. The process was tiring, and government officials often delayed responses, but he persisted with quiet determination.

With steady guidance from Sangathan members, Ajitkha bhai successfully collected all the required papers and completed his application. The team not only explained each step but also motivated him to stay consistent despite obstacles. For Ajitkha, this journey is more than just about financial support—it is about dignity, awareness, and the assurance that he is not forgotten. His story reflects how the right information and community support can bring hope and security to elderly citizens in rural areas.
