For small-scale women farmers facing unpredictable weather patterns and limited landholdings, sustainable climate-smart agriculture (CSA) is a ray of hope. By learning techniques like water conservation and cultivating drought-resistant crops, these women can adapt to a changing climate and ensure food security for their families and communities. CSA also optimizes land use with practices that improve yields on smaller plots, reducing reliance on expensive chemical fertilizers and pesticides. This empowers women farmers with knowledge, potentially higher incomes, and the tools they need to thrive in a challenging environment.
Our principles of promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture primarily aim to enhance the identity of women as 'farmers' and recognize their contribution to ensuring food security and environmental sustainability. Through our lead farmer-to-farmer approach, our Krushi Sakhis (lead women farmers) generate awareness and provide hands-on support to women farmers on water conservation techniques, drought-resistant crops, the use of organic fertilizers, and methods to increase production while reducing input costs.
Our multi-level interventions promote climate-smart agriculture among women farmers. They address three core areas:
