In the village of Mota Sarnaya in Santrampur taluka of Mahisagar district lives 28-year-old Rinaben Taviyad, a farmer and mother of three. Her family of five includes her husband, mother-in-law, one son, and two daughters. Their livelihood depends entirely on agriculture. When her youngest daughter, nine-month-old Kyara, was born, Rinaben was unaware of the government’s Vhali Dikri Scheme, which provides financial support to encourage the education and well-being of girls.
Her awareness began to change when she attended a service camp organized by Ekta Mahila Sangathan with the support of Utthan. There, she learned in detail about the Vhali Dikri Scheme, the eligibility criteria, and the required documents such as birth certificates of the child and parents, Aadhaar cards, income certificate, marriage certificate, ration card copy, and a notarized affidavit of the couple. Obtaining these documents proved challenging. Rinaben and her husband had to visit the talati office to get their marriage certificate and meet a lawyer to prepare the affidavit, spending around Rs. 3000 in the process. The lawyer asked for witnesses and proofs of marriage, which caused delays and added stress.
Despite these obstacles, with constant support from the Sangathan members, Rinaben was able to gather all the necessary documents and complete the online application for her daughter. The team guided her on where to go, how to submit the form, and stayed involved until the process was completed. Although she has not yet received the print copy of the online form, she now holds the acknowledgment order and feels proud that her daughter’s future is being secured. Rinaben’s journey reflects how awareness, persistence, and community guidance can empower rural families to access vital government schemes for their daughters’ better future.
